What is this appointment?

We listen to your story

Your visit starts with an in-depth, compassionate conversation and a review of your health history and specific screening tools. We want to understand what you’re feeling, both emotionally and physically.

We connect mind and body

At Tia, we know stress isn't just "in your head”, it's a medical issue that impacts your entire system. We’ll explore how your anxiety may be linked to physical symptoms like fatigue, digestive issues, or hormonal imbalances to see the full picture.

We create your personal care plan

Together, you and your provider will build a plan that feels right for you. Your plan is tailored to you and may include medication evaluation and management, supplements, lifestyle adjustments, or acupuncture for nervous system regulation.

Who should have an Anxiety Assessment?

This visit is for anyone who feels anxious, overwhelmed, or just not like themselves and wants care that sees the whole picture. It's a validating space to explore your symptoms, whether they feel emotional, physical, or a mix of both.

Symptoms we care for

  • Physical signs of stress: Things like headaches, digestive issues, muscle tension, or fatigue that sleep doesn't seem to fix.
  • Feelings of overwhelm and burnout: Feeling emotionally exhausted, irritable, or having trouble concentrating.
  • Sleep disturbances: Difficulty falling asleep, staying asleep, or waking up feeling unrested.
  • Feelings of dread or panic: A sense of doom or intense, sudden bursts of fear that interfere with your day.
  • Mood changes linked to your cycle: Worsening anxiety or irritability around your period that may be connected to hormonal shifts.

Your Anxiety Assessment: What to Expect

We want you to feel as comfortable and prepared as possible for your visit. Here’s a look at what your appointment will be like—from getting ready to next steps.

Preparing for Your Assessment

There’s no pressure to have all the answers, but it can be helpful to reflect on a few things. Consider making a few notes about:

  • Your Symptoms: When do you feel most anxious? What does it feel like in your body (e.g., racing heart, digestive issues, muscle tension) and your mind (e.g., racing thoughts)?
  • Your Patterns: Have you noticed any triggers? Is your anxiety linked to your menstrual cycle, sleep patterns, or stress levels?
  • Your Goals: What does feeling better look like for you?

During Your Assessment

Your provider will begin with a compassionate conversation, using guided questions or screening tools to understand the specifics of your anxiety. We'll explore potential root causes by looking at the connections between your symptoms and your hormonal, digestive, and nervous system health. By the end of the visit, you will collaboratively create an initial Care Plan with clear first steps, whether that’s exploring medication, trying acupuncture, or making targeted lifestyle changes.

After Your Assessment

You’ll leave the visit knowing exactly what comes next. Your provider will schedule a follow-up to check in on how you're feeling and fine-tune your plan. Remember, your Care Team is available via the patient portal if questions come up—our goal is to ensure you feel supported between appointments.

Anxiety Assessment FAQs

How is this different from a therapy session?

While therapy is an amazing tool, this is a medical assessment with a primary care provider. We focus on the biological and physiological sides of anxiety—how it lives in your body—to create a holistic care plan. This visit can be a powerful complement to talk therapy, adding tools like medication, lab testing, or acupuncture to your toolkit.

What mental health services does Tia offer?

We offer a range of services to support you. This includes mental health assessments, in-house psychiatry for medication management, acupuncture for nervous system regulation, and community support groups. While we don't offer in-house therapy, we can refer you to a trusted partner.

Who will I see for this appointment?

You'll see one of our primary care providers (MD, NP, or CNM) who has received additional specialty training in mental health. They are uniquely equipped to connect the dots between your mental and physical well-being.

What if I already have a therapist?

That’s great! This assessment can be a powerful complement to the work you’re already doing in therapy. Our providers can collaborate on your care, adding medical and integrative support like medication management from our psychiatry team or acupuncture to your existing mental health toolkit.

Is this a one-time appointment?

No, this assessment is the start of an ongoing journey. Your provider will work with you to schedule follow-up visits to assess how your care plan is working, see if you're feeling better, and make adjustments as your needs evolve. Continuous support is a core part of our care model.

Can I get medication for anxiety at Tia?

Yes, our providers can prescribe and manage medications for anxiety when it's the right choice for you. Your visit will start with a comprehensive assessment to understand your full health picture. From there, you and your provider will collaboratively decide on a care plan, which may include medication alongside other non-medication options and supportive tools.
