What is this appointment?

First, we focus on your preventative health

This dedicated visit is the cornerstone of preventative care for women. We’ll review essential screenings, check in on your key health markers, and discuss your wellness goals—from nutrition to sleep—and build a proactive plan that helps you stay healthy.

Then, we complete your comprehensive exam

We combine your annual physical and well-woman exam into one convenient visit. This includes essential screenings like a Pap test (if you're due), breast exam, blood pressure check, and preventative blood work tailored to you.

Finally, we create your preventative plan together

More than just checking boxes, this visit should begin a conversation about what wellness means for you. We take your context and our knowledge to make a preventative care plan tailored to your unique needs and goals.

Who should have an Annual Physical Exam?

Everyone should have an Annual Physical Exam every year, even if you are not due for a Pap test or don’t want a breast exam. These exams are focused on your holistic health and can be especially important if you’re managing a chronic condition, have notable family health history, or are moving through a significant life transition like planning for pregnancy, postpartum, or menopause.

Insurance and Pricing

Is this covered by insurance?

Yes, most insurance plans cover one preventative exam per year at 100%. If it has been at least 12 months since your last annual and you stick to preventative topics, your insurance should cover the visit.

What if I discuss other health issues?

Your Annual Physical Exam is designed for preventative care. If you bring up new or specific health concerns (like a rash or headaches), your insurance provider may bill that portion of the visit as a regular office visit. This does not mean that office visit is not covered but depending on your insurance plan, it could result in a copay or co-insurance. To take advantage of your preventative health benefit, we recommend discussing other health concerns in a separate visit.

FAQs

What is the difference between an annual exam and a preventative exam?

At Tia, there’s no difference—we see them as one and the same! We call the appointment an "Annual Preventative Exam," and during that visit, we can provide both your annual primary care physical and your well-woman exam at the same time. It’s all part of our approach to care for your whole self in one comprehensive visit.

Does insurance cover bloodwork?

At Tia, your labs are handled and billed separately through our third-party partner, Quest Diagnostics. While your preventative visit is typically covered by insurance, coverage for specific lab tests can vary between insurance plans. If you have any questions about the cost or billing for your bloodwork, it’s best to contact Quest or your insurance provider directly.

Do I need an annual exam every year, even if I'm not due for a Pap?

Absolutely! It is important to have an Annual Preventative Exam every year, even if you do not need a pap test. Your annual exam is about so much more than a single test; it’s a crucial time to connect with your provider, review your overall physical and mental health, and discuss other important screenings.

What happens if I discuss a new health problem during my visit?

Your annual exam is designed for preventative care, which is typically covered 100% by insurance. If you bring up a new or ongoing health issue, your insurance may consider that part of the visit a separate "office visit," which could result in a copay or co-insurance. This does not mean that office visit is not covered but depending on your insurance plan, it could result in a copay or co-insurance. To take advantage of your preventative health benefit, we recommend discussing other health concerns in a separate visit.

Can I get my bloodwork done at Tia?

Yes, you can get your blood drawn onsite at our Tia clinics!

Your Tia provider will order the necessary labs for you. After your blood is drawn at our clinic, we send the sample to our lab partner, Quest, for processing. You’ll receive a separate bill directly from Quest for any lab services.

Can I book this with Tia if I have already had an annual exam with another provider?

It depends. At Tia, we typically code this examination as an annual gynecologic exam, but since we also do primary care, we can convert this to an annual primary care exam (assuming you have not visited both a gynecologist and a primary care clinician already for your annual exam). Please notify us when booking the appointment so that we can adjust your care accordingly.

Since individual insurance policies do vary quite a bit, you may want to consult with your insurance plan first before booking this appointment to be certain.

I want to get lab X done. Is that included in my annual preventative exam at Tia?

At Tia, we believe your care should be a conversation about your personal wellness goals. Whether a specific lab is right for you depends on your situation, but we can discuss it during your annual preventative exam if it's relevant to your preventative care.

Please note that all billing for lab work goes through a 3rd party, Quest, who bills your insurance directly for all blood work. If you have questions about lab billing, please contact Quest or your insurance company.

Is an Annual Exam the same thing as a Longevity Assessment?

These are different! An annual preventative exam is a standard yearly checkup focused on general health, disease prevention, and early detection. A longevity assessment is a much more in-depth and proactive approach that uses advanced diagnostics to create a personalized plan for optimizing your health and extending your "healthspan." You can read more about our Longevity care here.
