FAQs
What is the difference between a GYN and an OB?
A GYN (Gynecologist) focuses on your reproductive health when you're not pregnant—things like periods, contraception, menopause, Pap smears, and sexual health. An OB (Obstetrician) focuses on pregnancy care, including prenatal visits, fetal monitoring, and labor and delivery. Many providers are trained in both and are called OB/GYNs.
What does “gynecological health” cover?
It covers comprehensive, whole-person care for a range of concerns. This includes everything from routine care like Pap tests and contraception to managing symptoms like painful periods, irregular bleeding, and conditions like PCOS and endometriosis.
Do you perform procedures like IUD insertion or removal?
Yes, we offer both IUD insertion and removal, as well as Nexplanon insertion and removal. We offer a compassionate, trauma-informed experience with options to increase comfort during the procedure, like acupuncture and cervical blocks.
Can Tia help me with painful periods, PCOS, or endometriosis?
Absolutely. We provide in-depth visits for a range of gynecological concerns, including diagnosis, symptom management, and care planning for these conditions. We look at the whole picture—not just the symptom—using both medication and integrative care.
Can I get tested for STIs at Tia?
Yes, we provide confidential STI testing and counseling as part of our comprehensive sexual health services. We can also help with prescriptions and management if needed.
What type of primary care provider will I see?
At Tia, you will be seen by a highly qualified primary care provider from our team, which includes physicians (MDs/DOs), nurse practitioners (NPs/DNPs), physician assistants (PAs), and certified nurse midwives (CNMs). We are an NP-forward model because we believe their holistic, patient-centered, and prevention-focused training is an excellent fit for our integrated approach. You can see the credentials of your provider when booking your appointment.
Can you care for me when I’m pregnant?
We provide primary care during pregnancy, but you'll still need an OB or midwife for prenatal visits and delivery, and we are happy to refer you to our network of trusted specialists.
Can I get a Well Woman/Pap test at Tia?
Yes, absolutely. You can book an Annual Exam for your routine cervical cancer screening (Pap test) and preventative care.
