Two years ago, Tia began offering mental health services as part of our comprehensive women’s health care model. We believed then - and are even more convinced today - that mental health is core to creating a new standard of care for women and that distinctive, sex-specific care starts with the integration of mental and physical health.

Today, we’re continuing to invest in and expand mental health at Tia to offer a full spectrum of care. That includes:

  • integrating mental health more deeply into primary care and wellness services, including our signature Whole Health Exam, which includes mental health screening and - if needed - a care plan for common diagnoses like anxiety and depression
  • ensuring patients who need access to medications to manage their mental health can do so through primary care and our in-house psychiatry providers
  • piloting new group-based mental health offerings centered around social connection and shared experiences, which will be expanding to all Tia members in April.

We’ve validated the incredible demand for mental health as part of Tia’s care model and have promising initial data that integrating mental and physical care makes women healthier. And like all aspects of our care model, mental health programs must be underpinned by a strong economic engine in order to be sustainable. Despite almost a year of operational, pricing, and insurance changes, we have not been able to make 1v1 therapy financially viable at Tia. We’re not alone in this challenge; nearly every 1v1 therapy provider that takes insurance is struggling with reimbursement rates far below the cost to serve patients — indicative of a structural issue in the healthcare system that does not yet value mental health on par with physical health.

Because of this, we’ve made the decision to wind down 1v1 talk therapy at Tia effective March 10th. As part of this programming change, we’ll be parting ways with therapists who deliver 1v1 care. Our 1v1 therapists have been an important part of our care team and we will miss them very much. We’ll be supporting departing employees with a thoughtful benefits package to ease their transition. We’ll also be supporting Tia members with a smooth and clinically-appropriate transition of care that is in keeping with regulatory guidance. Members can continue to see their therapist at Tia until March 10th. In these final visits, we’ll ensure every member gets a transition plan tailored to their needs, whether that’s concluding 1v1 therapy, continuing to see their therapist outside of Tia or finding another therapist through their insurer, or trying new mental health offerings like Tia’s group-based care.

While we continue to evolve our service offerings, our North Star remains the same: to make women healthier and to make the business of care delivery stronger. We believe strongly that this evolution in our mental health programming will help achieve both, making our members healthier in mind and body and building a strong financial foundation for the future.

Thank you for your commitment to Tia and your support through this transition.
