Potential treatment plans

Once you have completed your fertility consult, your provider might recommend a variety of different treatment plans depending on the potential diagnosis:

Lifestyle Modifications

  • Weight management: Achieving a healthy body weight is important because both obesity and being underweight can affect fertility.
  • Smoking and alcohol cessation: Smoking and excessive alcohol consumption can reduce fertility.

Vitamin and Supplement Recommendations

  • Folic Acid (Folate): Folic acid is essential for early fetal development. It's often recommended for women who are trying to conceive and during early pregnancy to prevent neural tube defects.
  • Iron: Iron is important for overall health, and maintaining adequate iron levels can help support a healthy pregnancy. Some women may require iron supplements if they are deficient.
  • Omega-3 Fatty Acids: Omega-3 fatty acids, found in fish oil supplements, may help regulate hormones and improve uterine blood flow.
  • Vitamin E: An antioxidant that can help protect egg and sperm cells from oxidative damage.
  • Melatonin: Melatonin is involved in regulating the sleep-wake cycle and may have a positive effect on egg quality. It's often recommended for women over 35.
  • Multivitamins: Taking a daily prenatal multivitamin with folic acid can help ensure you're getting a well-rounded mix of vitamins and minerals.

Additional Labs, Imaging, or Referrals

In some cases, your Tia provider might recommend additional blood work and ultrasounds depending on the perceived diagnosis. You provider might also refer you to a fertility specialist.
