At Tia, our mission is to drive the highest standard of care for women by integrating primary care with gynecology, mental health, and wellness services. Building on the foundation laid in our 2023 report, we are proud to showcase how our model has evolved and the meaningful progress we’ve achieved in 2024. This year’s accomplishments reflect our commitment to operational excellence, clinical rigor, and patient-centered innovation.

The Challenge: Women Are Still Underserved in Healthcare

In our 2023 report, we highlighted the systemic barriers women face in accessing care. Despite commanding 80% of healthcare spending, these challenges persist:

  • Gender Discrimination: In a 2022 report, 29% of women reported feeling dismissed by their doctor during their most recent healthcare experience - with women ages 18-35 reporting 46% having experienced a negative interaction with a health care provider.(4) 15% felt disbelieved by their provider, 19% said their doctor made assumptions about them without asking questions, and 13% felt personally blamed for a health issue.
  • Lack of Regular Care Providers: A 2022 survey found that 20% of U.S. women did not routinely see a primary care physician, and 50% did not have regular visits with an OB/GYN.(1)
  • Lower Life Expectancy: As of 2022, U.S. women have a life expectancy of 80 years, the lowest among high-income countries. Additionally, the U.S. reports the highest rate of avoidable deaths among women, with 270 per 100,000 as of 2021.(2)
  • Higher Prevalence of Mental Health Issues: According to the National Institute of Mental Health, the prevalence of major depressive episodes among adults is higher in women (10.5%) than in men (6.2%).(3)
  • Lack of Midlife Support: Only about 35% of women aged 40 to 64 report that their healthcare provider has ever discussed what to expect during menopause with them.

These disparities are even more pronounced among women of color and LGBTQIA+ individuals, with limited access to preventative services exacerbating poor outcomes. For example:

  • The 2023 National Healthcare Quality and Disparities Report revealed that, on average, women of color were 55% less likely than White women to have equitable access to essential primary care services. This disparity was reflected across key indicators such as having a regular primary care provider, receiving timely preventive screenings, and maintaining continuous health insurance coverage.(5)
  • A 2024 study published in Population Research and Policy Review revealed that, on average, LGBTIA+ individuals of color who identified as female were 83% less likely than their heterosexual White counterparts to have a primary care provider (PCP). This disparity persisted even after accounting for factors such as income, insurance coverage, education, and health conditions.

Our 2024 efforts aimed to tackle these issues head-on.

Our Solution: Tia’s Primary Care “Plus” Model

Tia’s unique approach integrates:

  • Primary Care: An innovative approach to prevention that engages women— especially those from demographics often underserved in preventative and primary care in life saving preventative care. 70% of Tia’s members did not have a preventative exam in the 12 months prior to joining Tia. Once patients join Tia, they engage in life-saving preventative care at rates 2-3x the national average while also proactively managing health concerns and chronic conditions through an integrated approach that improves health outcomes over time.
  • Reproductive Health: Enhanced access to screenings and preventative care while also providing tailored care for women’s comprehensive reproductive health needs for every stage of her life - from contraception to trying to conceive to postpartum to perimenopause to menopause and beyond.
  • Mental Health: Holistic and comprehensive support tailored to women’s experiences, needs, and goals. Our mental health offerings incorporate thoughtful integration of mental health into primary care, support groups, psychiatry, acupuncture and referrals for therapy- knowing that mental health is healthcare and solutions need to be thorough, evidence-based and accessible.
  • Innovative Engagement: in order to achieve improved health outcomes - one first needs to engage people in their healthcare. Tia’s thoughtful, approachable and relational based model engages people in primary care often for the first time. More than 90% of Tia’s patients did not have a relationship with a dominant health system in their geographic market before joining Tia.

In 2024, we expanded our reach while delivering care that builds on the successes of our proven outcomes in 2023 and surpassed national benchmarks in critical areas.

Key Outcomes for 2024

Building on 2023 Success: In 2023, we demonstrated how our model closes primary care gaps. This year, we’ve deepened our impact.

Advancing Health Equity:

We invested early in collecting, tracking and reporting health quality data by race + ethnicity to ensure that our quality outcomes were equitable. We are proud to share that we achieved balanced performance outcomes across diverse race and ethnicity groups, surpassing industry benchmarks and continuing progress toward equitable results.

“I really liked the doctor. She listened to my concerns and suggested actions to support me that I hadn't considered. She was knowledgeable, she was a black woman - it was so refreshing to have a doctor who was both black and a woman. She's a fantastic hire, so well done Tia!”

Member and Provider Stories

Tia is healthcare that makes women feel heard and cares for the providers providing care.

In 2024, we celebrate an annual Net Promoter Score (NPS) of 82, far above the industry average and a reflection of our members’ satisfaction and trust in our model.

Our commitment to patient care starts with our commitment to creating a differentiated clinical model for our clinicians. The physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants and nurses who partner with our patients to achieve our impressive outcomes come to Tia and stay at Tia because of the culture of learning, growth, support, reasonable flexibility and collaboration that we have built for our clinical teams.

At a time when clinicians are leaving medicine and primary care in masses - most stats reference at least a 7%(7) and rising turnover of primary care clinicians year over year - Tia is proud to share a 97% retention rate of its clinicians year over year.
