FAQs
What is a compounded medication?
A compounded medication is custom‑formulated by a licensed pharmacist to deliver the exact dose, form, or combination your clinician prescribes when a commercially available option isn’t the best fit.
How are compounded GLP-1 medications different from branded GLP-1 medications?
Compounded GLP-1 medications provide an important alternative for patients who cannot access branded options due to ongoing shortages, medication customization needs, or cost barriers. While not FDA-approved, these compounds are prepared by licensed pharmacies and can offer clinically similar benefits when sourced responsibly. Their use supports continued access to essential care for patients with limited options.
Will insurance cover the cost of compounded GLP-1s?
OpenLoop compounded medications are cash-pay only. You may be able to use an HSA or FSA debit card, depending on your plan.
What if I’m not interested in compounded GLP-1s?
At Tia, our goal is to create a weight management care plan that works for you and your goals. Your Tia provider will discuss various options with you - and if compounded GLP-1s are not the right choice - we will work with you to find a solution (medication or otherwise) that meets your needs.
