Groups at Tia

We're not meant to go through it alone. That's why we've created Groups, so you can connect and process with women facing similar challenges or circumstances when and how it’s best for you.

Led by Tia-vetted Licensed Mental Health Professionals, you'll share experiences, receive comfort and encouragement, listen and learn from others, and get science-backed tools to process your emotions. Join others on your journey to mental wellness—and feel the power of belonging and being heard.

Hi! My name is Sunni Jones-Ford and I’ve worked at Tia for almost 2 years and have over 5 years of experience facilitating groups. I’ve led a range of groups focused on topics like body image challenges, self-confidence, navigating big life transitions and living with a chronic illness. And it is very important that I facilitate all of my groups through a culturally aware lens.

Hi! My name is Grace Charlton and I bring over 5 years of experience facilitating groups. Group topics that I’ve led over the years include relationships and intimacy, self-compassion, seeking safety, and health at every size, amongst others. I have a passion for helping people feel safe in their relationships, their environment, and most importantly, in their own body.

Groups were created for connection and healing but aren't meant to be a replacement for medical treatment, psychiatric care, or psychotherapy. Please note this service is in BETA. Tia is about designing a new standard of care for women - we do that by building services that are explicitly designed by and with our members. This service is currently in early stages (aka BETA) of being "tried on" by our members. The care is research backed and, as always, delivered by world class professionals. However, we are seeking to understand the best format, experience, and overall service design to meet patient and provider needs to lead to the best outcomes for your health and wellbeing. Using a service in BETA could mean you hear a little more from us about feedback, and it could mean that the service changes over time - as we seek to shape it to be the best we can deliver.

FAQs

Who can attend a Support Group?

Any Tia member is welcome to join a Support Group! There are no prerequisites or referral requirements to join.

How often do Support Groups meet?

A Support Group Series meets for a specified number of weeks (e.g., four weeks).

How are Support Groups structured?

Once your Support Group starts, no new members join. This means you’ll see the same members each week—so you can build connections and trust.

What is the commitment?

If you choose to join a Support Group series, please consider committing to the duration of the group (so that you and the fellow members can experience cohesion).

How many people will be in my Support Group?

We’ve used research and experience to inform Support Group sizes. Group series have between 5 and 12 members. Because Support Groups rely on peer support, we cannot run a group without 5 members.

How long is each Support Group appointment?

All group appointments are 50-55 minutes long.

How do you select the topics?

We regularly use member feedback to inform the Support Groups we provide. Our goal is to provide groups that enable each member to achieve optimal health as defined by themselves.

Who facilitates the Support Group?

We utilize health professionals to facilitate our Support Groups. It is important to note that when they are facilitating a support group, they are not operating in a role of providing medical or therapeutic advice or services.

Are the Support Groups therapy or a substitute for therapy?

Support Groups are not the same as group or individual therapy, and are not a substitute for medical treatment or care, psychiatric care, or psychotherapy. If you would like assistance being connected to one of these services, please contact your care coordinator.

Are Support Groups confidential?

Support Group facilitators are committed to keeping what is discussed in group sessions confidential unless otherwise required by law. We ask that all members keep what they hear in Support Groups confidential and private so it can be a safe, secure place for all to talk.

What if I feel nervous or shy in a group setting? Do I have to share?

No one has to share more than they want to. We believe there is tremendous benefit in participating in a Support Group and practicing deep listening, even if you choose not to share.

What is your cancellation policy?

Cancellations occurring with less than 24 hours notice and no shows are charged the full appointment price.

Do you accept insurance for Support Groups?

No, as these are support sessions, not therapy.

I have a therapist or psychiatrist. Can I still join a Support Group?

Absolutely! Anyone is welcome to join a Support Group.

How much do Support Groups cost?

Groups are $35 per session. For more information, visit our pricing pages here or contact a care coordinator.
