Learn More About the Tia Clinic Health Record

A behind-the-scenes peek into the making of the Tia Clinic.

The history of the health record stems back to Ancient Greece when the practice of documenting medical symptoms, interventions and outcomes first began. Ahead of the curve so-to-speak, the Ancient Greeks deemed the act of recording of health information valuable not only for those practicing medicine, but for patients receiving care.

For most of us today however, health records and patient intake forms are akin to banging your head against a wall. Instead of “empowering” and “informative,” we tend to associate today’s health records with some not-so-fun things like:

  • The clipboard
  • The “patient portal” with UI from 1995 (with a login you never seem to get right).
  • The awkward sexual history questions no one really knows how to answer.

In designing a new health record for the Tia Clinic, we turned not only to Tia users, but to women’s health providers to understand what is broken about health records today, and how we might create something more valuable for patients and providers alike. Here’s what we found out.

What female patients hate about health records today

“It’s like my doctor never remembers anything about me. How many times do I have to say ‘I don’t get my period!’ for her to remember?”

“Going to the doctor feels like going to the DMV. I don’t know what’s worse… a physical clipboard or a PDF I need to install special software in order to edit.”

“But where does “it” even live? It’s my body. My data. Why can my doctor see it, but I can’t?”

What women’s health providers hate about health records today

“It feels like there is never the right amount of information… there’s always too little or too much information to be useful.”

“My patient intake forms are too ‘one-size-fits all.’ There’s no way customize based on a patient’s particular needs.”

“I don’t have time to review a patient’s full health record when I’m in back-to-backs all day. There’s no way to see at a glance the most important information.”

Pairing these patient wants with provider needs, we created a new and improved Tia Clinic health record that is:

#1: Controlled by you — accessible and editable right from your phone.

#2: Comprehensive, holistic and inclusive to paint a picture of the whole you.

#3: Visualized on a “third screen,” so you & your provider can view your health record in tandem.

#4: Personalized & adaptive to your appointment & discussion topic.

#5: “Powered by Tia,” who flags relevant info for you & your provider to discuss in the context of your appointment.
